The physicians of Pacific Neuropsychiatric Specialists, Inc. are dedicated to enhancing the health of all our patients. Our efforts are focused first and foremost on providing ready access to our services and keeping our patients healthy through preventative care. We take the role of coordinating your care very seriously and to that end we are happy to make appropriate referrals to specialist for all of our patients if needed.
Since you are a member of a health maintenance organization (HMO), it is important that you take the time to learn about the benefits and restrictions of your policy and plan. Most health maintenance organizations prefer that we refer our patients within the provider network of our south shore community. It is also our belief that our patients are better served by the specialists within our community since we have established excellent working relationships and receive timely feedback regarding your specialty care.
HMO's require us to make referrals before you see a specialist or have diagnostic testing. To avoid the possibility of your insurer denying benefits, talk to your primary care physician's office before seeking care elsewhere. Another goal of our physicians is to provide you with the best care in the most appropriate setting. In many instances paper work must be completed to authorize a referral to a specialist and this may take up to five business days.
If you ever experience a life threatening emergency, you should go directly to the nearest emergency room. Examples of this include suspected heart attacks or loss of conciousness. If your illness is not life threatening you should contact your primary care physician. Even on a weekend or evening, you should call your primary care physician's office before going to the emergency room, unless of course your illness is life threatening. The operator will be able to contact the covering physician for you.
Again we aim to provide an environment of compassionate care for our patients and we are committed to educating our patients, staff and other professionals to meet your health care needs. If you should have any additinal questions regarding your insurance coverage or managed care, please contact your member relations' representative from your insurance company.
